In 1993 I bought a small sandblaster
to erase paint from my airbrush paintings and ended up experimenting
on glass (both art forms have many techniques in common). The
experiments on glass were so intriuging glass became the main
focus of my work.
Traditional sandetching techniques
restrict expression, and it was important for me to be able to
capture freeform lines and brush strokes. Early successes with
this freer approach gave me the drive to spend the next 3 years
perfecting my technique which left fellow sandcarvers baffled.
I have been using different contemporary
lighting techniques as well as natural light to highlight my
work in glass. State of the art LED bulbs diffuse white or coloured
light throughout the entire panels of glass - dramatically highlighting
the sculpted forms. The changing natural light throughout the
day creates different accents on the artwork causing subtle changes
to occur in the mood of the room.
My work is constantly evolving,
I am now combining glass carving, airbrush painting and edgelighting
techniques in my increasingly popular work.
